Scope of Solution
To provide a 10 site Video Conferencing solution without a Bridge/MCU.
Challenges
No MPLS/VPN facility. Most sites at geographically interior locations in India. Bandwidth at remote sites was broadband. Client required 10 sites to be connected simultaneously. Data Streaming/Presentation Capabilities also required at all ends.
Ideation/ Solution
The pressing need was for a unified mode of bandwidth to enable video conferencing. Through subsequent interactions it became clear the client would sporadically use the Video Conferencing Facility throughout the month. After a feasibility analysis from our side, it was thus decided to suggest ISDN as the primary bandwidth to make the Video Calls. ISDN facility made it possible to add an Audio participant to the video call as an additional facility.
The main query was how to provide the client with a 10 site multi party Video Conferencing Facility without the use of a MCU. Most Multiparty licenses allowed for an up 1+3 or a 1+5 site video call. The work around was a cascading between two Polycom VSX8800- with each connecting to 4 remote site including each other, enabling Video Call connectivity between all 10 sites.
The Data Presentation need from the client’s end required that any Employee/Guest walking into a remote location would have the ability to transmit data without having to depend on local/remote IT Help. This was achieved by including the Polycom VSX Visual Concert Package on all the Codec’s. Thus with the Visual Concert device connected to all the codec’s, Transmitting data in a Video Call, from a connected Laptop/Desktop became instantaneous & easy to use.
